Honoring preservation in the lowcountry and beyond
To commemorate its 1947 founding, HCF honors extraordinary contributions in preserving the Lowcountry's irreplaceable built environment and cultural character.
Each April, Historic Charleston Foundation (HCF) honors extraordinary contributions in preserving Charleston’s irreplaceable historic built environment and cultural character with its Charter Day Awards. Awards include the Stoney Craftsmanship Award, the Whitelaw Founders Award, the Joseph H. (Peter) Advocacy McGee Award and The Frances R. Edmunds for Historic Preservation.
In 2026, HCF was honored to recognize the following award winners: Bill Olson; Jeff Emig; Picquet Roofing; SC Ports Authority, Landmark Engineering and GEL Engineering for the Bennett Rice Mill; Mark Maresca and Meadors, Inc. for 89 Smith Street; homeowners Kevin Story and Stephanie Finch the team (Richard Marks Restoration, Thomas & Denzinger Architecture, Architrave Interior, Wertimer + Cline Landscape) for 26 South Battery; Jon Mazzoli and Meadors Inc. for 60 Meeting Street; homeowner Dr. John Kerrison and team (Bill Huey + Associates, Matthew and Tim Gochanuer, Cochnauer Construction, Taylor Hill, Taylor Hill Designs, Glenn Gardner) for 60 Tradd Street; Bill "Cubby" Wilder, Larry Graves and Kyle Taylor for the Pine Tree Hotel and Skeeta Beach Lounge; St. Philip's Church congregation and the team (Magee Ratcliff Construction, LLC (Ryan Magee and Nathan Youngman), Eddie Porcher of Stantec Consulting, UpSouth LLC, Glasgow Roofing, Canning Liturgical, Bell Foundry Christoph) for its Shine the Light preservation campaign.
