Cataloging the Collection with 2025 Museum Interns

Hi 👋 I’m Julia Keadle, a rising senior studying Arts Management at the College of Charleston. This summer, I have had the pleasure of working as an intern with the Museums team and worked closely with Valerie Perry on cataloging the inventory between the Nathaniel Russell and Aiken-Rhett House Museums.

Over the course of the summer, I worked to update collection photos in CatalogIt (the Foundation's records management system), assisted in writing loan and gift agreements, filed reports, and assisted in swapping out displays at the Nathaniel Russell House.

A large portion of the Foundation's archival collection is available to the public and for public access online and by appointment. HCF currently utilizes CatalogIt.

The connections I’ve made and the guidance I’ve received have deepened my passion for this work. It’s shown me how important it is for people my age to engage with House Museums and help promote historic education. The personal stories, unique objects, and everyday customs they preserve give visitors a powerful window into the past.

I’m honored to have played a role in preserving Charleston’s history and so thankful for everyone who supported me. This experience will stay with me as I move forward in my career.
