PreserVISIONist Membership Group

The Next Generation of Historic Preservationists in Charleston, SC

A PreserVISIONist is an individual with a passion for history, architecture, Lowcountry culture, and the overall livability of Charleston and the surrounding communities.

Who is a PreserVISIONist?

This group is perfect for someone who is interested in learning more about Charleston’s rich history and enjoys a variety of educational and social events that support non-profit organizations in Charleston; a young professional interested in networking with others who share a passion for this region, values advocacy and giving back to the community.

What will you do?

PreserVISIONists may enjoy a variety of annual events such as socials, educational events, family events, and exclusive PreserVISIONist only events while supporting Historic Charleston Foundation’s mission-driven work through membership-dues and other outreach events.

What are the benefits?

Membership in the PreserVISIONist includes early access to tickets for organized events, discount shopping at Shop Historic Charleston, and complimentary admission to the Nathaniel Russell and Aiken-Rhett House Museums. The Foundation will also send out a dedicated newsletter to PreserVISIONist members providing insight into current preservation and advocacy issues that we are actively engaged with, and how to get involved. PreserVISIONists will also be the first to know about new programs and events with the Foundation.

What is the commitment?

PreserVISIONists are asked to pay an annual membership fee of $150 per person, or $200 per couple. The Foundation aims to build a membership community of young professional PreserVISIONists and encourage current members to invite friends and colleagues into the group.

What to Look Forward to:

Each year, PreserVISIONists will enjoy first access and discounted tickets for events designed with support of the PreserVISIONist committee. In addition, members receive exclusive access to a variety of complimentary educational, social, and family-oriented programming that may include:

  • Tour of ongoing preservation projects in the Lowcountry
  • Invitations to Forums focused on HCF’s advocacy work – tourism management, sustainable development, flooding and sea level rise, affordable housing, etc.
  • Holiday events at the House Museums
  • Behind-the-scenes tour of the American College of the Building Arts
  • Exclusive cocktail party for PreserVISIONists
  • and more!

Engaging with Preservation

Charleston, South Carolina is known as the birthplace of historic preservation. Frances R. Edmunds, founder of Historic Charleston Foundation, worked alongside fellow preservationists including Susan Pringle Frost to advocate for the preservation of Charleston's built environment. Since Historic Charleston Foundation's founding in 1947, preservationists like Frances Edmunds built a leading city in the world of historic preservation and its our responsibility to continue that legacy.

The PreserVISIONist Membership Group has grown to include a variety of Lowcountry residents looking to connect and engage with the Foundation. Members not only receive exclusive invitations to specialty programming, but Members also directly engage with the staff by serving on advisory committees for fundraising initiatives and sponsoring preservation initiatives and programming. For more information about sponsorship opportunities, contact Ruth Smith, Events Manager.
