The Charleston Festival 2026
For 79 years, Historic Charleston Foundation has opened the doors of one of America's most architecturally extraordinary cities to the world — and every spring, it does it again. Historic Charleston Foundation's 2026 Festival runs March 18 through April 11, 2026, across Charleston's most beloved historic neighborhoods and landmark venues, bringing together travelers, history enthusiasts, architecture lovers, gardeners, and preservation advocates for 25 days of immersive, one-of-a-kind experiences.
Established in 1947 as the Festival of Houses and Gardens, this is the Foundation's largest annual fundraising and educational event. Every ticket purchased directly supports Historic Charleston Foundation's mission: to advocate for a future for Charleston that honors and protects its people, places, culture, and community. When you attend, you're not just a visitor — you're a preservation partner.
What to expect: Self-guided street tours through private historic homes in neighborhoods including South Battery, Harleston Village, Tradd Street, and Church Street. Garden tours that take guests behind the gates of Charleston's most exquisite private landscapes. Expert-led history walking tours that bring the antebellum South, Revolutionary era, and Gullah Geechee Lowcountry to life on the streets where it all happened. Lectures and workshops covering architecture, preservation, food history, and design. Intimate music performances featuring Gullah spirituals and Lowcountry traditions in landmark venues. A sweetgrass basket workshop led by Gullah Geechee artisan Sarah Edwards-Hammond. The Rice and Roots dining experience exploring the West African foodways that shaped Lowcountry cuisine. Special Legacy Tours offering rare, curated access to architecturally and historically significant private properties.
Whether you're planning a spring trip to Charleston specifically for the Festival or exploring what's happening in your own backyard, the full event schedule offers something for every kind of curious mind — and every event is a direct investment in keeping Charleston's history, culture, and community protected for generations to come.
