Easement Education Series: Insurance
As an exclusive benefit for our Easement and Covenant Homeowners, HCF is offering a series of educational sessions to help navigate topics and issues that face owners of historic properties each day. Please join us at the Capt. James Missroon House (40 East Bay St.) for these free educational sessions and connect with other preservation-minded property owners in Charleston.
The first session of the Easement Education Series will highlight insurance!
Join us at the Capt. James Missroon House for a panel discussion with three residential insurance professionals. Insuring residential historic properties has become increasingly difficult. Few companies are willing to insure historic properties, and insurance premiums are soaring. Our expert insurance panelists will talk about the state of the insurance industry today at a national and local level, what is driving up costs, and what tools are available for homeowners to mitigate risks.
Panelists include:
- Jules Anderson is the Managing Member of Anderson Insurance Associates, Inc, covering the Carolinas since 1980, representing some of the largest insurance companies in the U.S., and recognized as a Best Practices Agency for more than a decade. Mr. Anderson has built his business in size and scope through the years to provide the most comprehensive and the highest quality insurance products and services available to his clients.
- John Bressan (Helm Risk Advisors) with an Economics degree from the College of Charleston, and prior experience in financial sales and banking, John has used his market know-how as a private client insurance advisor for over thirteen years, with expertise in coastal and historic homes. A native of Charlottesville, VA, he’s lived in Charleston since 2007.
- Jay Katz is the AVP, Regional Underwriting Manager – Southeast Region at PURE Insurance. In this role, he leads the underwriting team within the Southeast Region, comprised of Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Jay has over eighteen years of professional experience in the high net worth insurance space on both the carrier and specialty wholesale side, focusing on high-end coastal properties. Jay has specialized technical knowledge in coastal wind mitigation and elevation concerns, especially relevant within the Charleston marketplace. Jay has a B.S. from Appalachian State University with majors in Risk & Insurance and Finance & Banking. Jay lives in Charleston with his wife Cindi and their two sons, Tyler and Reed. Jay is an avid golfer, car enthusiast and enjoys spending time outdoors with his family.
A short Q&A session will occur after the program and light refreshments will be available. This session is exclusively for HCF easement/covenant property owners and space is extremely limited. Easement and covenant homeowners were sent an RSVP link directly by email to attend this event — if you did not receive this link and are an easement/covenant homeowner, please email us directly at info@historiccharleston.org.
The Easement Education Series will continue with two additional programs this fall. Please save the date for September 17 and October 15.
