Paintings Conservator Joanne Barry speaks on the subject of “How Technology Shapes Perception.” Digging deep into the art historical record, we will look at paintings from different cultures throughout the centuries to see how art has been shaped by emerging technologies. Barry works preserving individual artworks but also speaks about broader aspects of perception and the preventative measures needed to preserve history. This fun and thought-provoking lecture challenges preconceived notions about how humans create and raise questions of “What is lost with the passage of time?” Joanne Barry has worked in the field of paintings conservation for more than 20 years. She will talk about the process of restoration for paintings she has conserved featuring before and after treatment photographs.
