The Romney Urban Garden (RUG) was started by a group of young members of the New Israel Reformed Episcopal Church on Romney Court. The church owned a vacant lot at the end of the street and the idea was formed to turn the lot, which was overgrown and strewn with random pieces of debris, into something that the community could enjoy. In 2014, neighbors, church members and HCF staff cleaned up the lot, added mulch, a mosaic wall, nine garden beds, and a pizza oven for the community.Today, the Romney Urban Garden is located at 222 Romney Court and hosts free programming in the space, along with community garden days to maintain the space.
