Oyster Roast for Naval Servicemen at Schutzenplatz

Description

Two photographic postcards of a 1912 oyster roast for Naval servicemen at the Schutzenplatz (now the Charleston Rifle Club), likely after the downtown parade (see 2018.008.2a-d).

a: Captioned "At the Oyster Roast - Schutzenplatz - Charleston S.C." Sailors are gathered in front of the structure known as the Shooting Shed. The marsh at the right is now Sunnyside Avenue and the house at the right (background) was located at the northwest corner of Rutledge Avenue and Mount Pleasant Street.

b: Captioned "View of the Oyster Roast - Charleston S.C." Sailors are gathered at the shucking table. The structure known as "The Lodge" is at upper left of photo.

Third image is a map of the Schutzenplatz.
