Children at Elmwood Avenue House

Description

B&W photograph (scan) of a group of children sitting on the front lawn with arms outstretched. Two adults and a toddler are in the background. Man is seated on steps and woman is bending over to talk to a toddler.

Photograph taken by local lawyer Gedney Howe’s family at a birthday party. The house is not really featured very well, but enough is shown to know that it was a slightly different Colonial Revival style house, located on the last lot on the west side of Elmwood before it runs into the Citadel. Today it is the site of an addition to one of the classroom or administrative buildings on the Citadel just to the left as you drive in the main gates. The west side of Elmwood Avenue between Huger and Moultrie was laid out as part of Hampton Park Terrace in 1912 and a few houses were built there. (Details and title provided by the donor.)
