The Lost Architecture: July Edition

Posted: July 31, 2018

The answer is 77 Fishburne Street (Push Grocery). There is no history on this house and corner store in HCF’s archives. What is known is that it was located at the southwest corner of Fishburne and St. Philip Streets and was demolished in the second half of the 1960s when Fishburne Street was shortened by several blocks to accommodate the construction of the Crosstown and I-26. This photograph was taken in 1963 when it was surveyed by the South Carolina Department of Transportation in advance of the demolition. To see this and photographs of the other buildings that were impacted by the construction of roads, see the collection on the Lowcountry Digital Library.
