This May, we are excited to bring back the Foundation’s History Matters Lecture Series! This month, join Valerie Perry for a fast and encompassing lecture of the cities and many sites that 18th and 19th century Charlestonians would have toured as they traveled on carriages, steamers, trains and conveyances from destination to destination. Valerie Perry, Manager of the Aiken-Rhett House Museum, will take you back in time to explore some of the iconic sites that Alicia Middleton and Harriet Lowndes Aiken (left) would have traveled to, who they would have met, their most intimate opinions from diary entries, and what life would have been like for the Charleston elites. Cities that would have been visited include London, Paris, Rome, Florence, Berlin and Prague to name a few. Also included are the various thoughts, journal entries and letters from several Charlestonians of the past.
