Throughout its 350-year history, courageous and innovative women have helped shaped the history of Charleston. This fascinating lecture includes stories of Affra Coming who arrived in Charleston aboard the Carolina in 1669 and helped settle a new colony; the Grimke sisters, Charleston natives who became fierce abolitionists; female pirates; Bathesheba Cattell who was once enslaved and went on to become a slave owner; preservationists; and ladies of the night. Join Valerie Perry, Manager of the Aiken-Rhett House Museum, who will paint a passionate and rollicking picture of women who helped make Charleston’s history.
