Starting with the Unitarian and St John’s Churches on Archdale St, and ending at St Philips on Church St, the Gateway Walk winds through the gardens, courtyards and cemeteries of some of Charleston’s most notable landmarks. The walk opened in 1930 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the city’s founding, and was designed by the noted landscape architect, Loutrel Briggs. It is open to the public. These charms were developed from decorative elements associated with institutions located on the walk.
