Horseman's Battle Axe Charm
The Horseman’s Battle Axe is a variation of the standard battle axe and was developed in the Middle Ages to be used specifically by warriors on horseback. This example can be seen on the wrought iron fence in front of the Gibbes Museum on Meeting Street. When used in this manner, it represented a warning that the premises are guarded or protected.
