Bohea tea is a lightly smoked Pekoe black tea blend. Bohea tea (pronounced "boo-hee") was imported to Charles Town in larger quantities than all other teas combined. Before the Boston Tea Party, on December 1, 1773, the ship London arrived in Charles Town carrying chests of Bohea tea in its cargo of 257 chests of tea. It was resolved to not import or buy the tea, but rather to hold it in the Exchange. The tea was later sold to fund the treasury after the Revolution.
