Description

Until individual photographs are cataloged, this is an inventory of the photographs in this series. Most are B&W but there are some color photographs; photos are in various sizes. Some individuals featured in photographs require further identification.

Folder 1-Frances R. Edmunds: Various photographs of Frances Edmunds, spanning 1940s through 1990. Includes both photographic portraits and photos of Frances Edmunds with others, e.g., FRE with the first group of Festival hostesses; FRE presenting a height zoning plan; FRE with various first ladies (Lady Bird Johnson, Pat Nixon, Betty Ford); FRE receiving a tray (award?); FRE at the opening of the Preservation Center (108 Meeting Street); FRE with Lawrence Walker and Angus Murdoch in front of 108 Meeting Street; FRE in City Council Chambers during National Trust Board Meeting in 1990; FRE with her daughter Eliza Cleveland (Charter Day 1998). Several photos have been cataloged; see individual catalog records. (Sizes vary; also includes 2 transparencies).

Folder 2--HCF Staff and Trustees: Connie Wyrick; M.E. Palmer Gaillard Jr. and two men (need to be identified); Liz Young and Mayor Riley; Liz Young, Zoe Sanders, and Charlotte Riley; CD of 2005 Board of Trustees; Carter Hudgins (see 2017.003.2).

Folder 4--Festival, Russell House, and Other "Hostesses": (1) Vereen Huguenin (Vereen Coen), Nella Barkley (Mrs. Rufus Barkley), and Mrs. Huger Sinkler; (2) Mrs. Benjamin R. Kittredge, Jr., Mrs. Henry P. Staats, and Miss Josephine Pinckney decorating a room at the NRH(?); (3) Chilton "Hunky" Cheves (Johnson) and Anne Bee Rhett (see 2009.003.006); (4) Anne Bee Rhett and Katherine Furman (see 2009.003.007a); (5) Chance Stevens Ravenel and Elizabeth Williams (see 2009.003.007b) (the women in nos. 3-5 were early Festival hostesses; (6) first Festival hostesses (see record 2009.003.002 for full description); (7) Juliette Staats and another woman admiring drapery at NRH; (8) woman standing in NRH room; (9) woman seated on bed in NRH bedroom; (10) three women at dining room table at Edmonston-Alston House(?); (11) Patti Whitelaw (and another woman) arranging candles at the NRH (2013.003.17).

Folder 5--Miscellaneous People: Louis L. Green III presenting award to Emmet Johnson, Jr. (1960s?); Sally Reahard (1997); Susan Pringle Frost and dogs; Philip Simmons; Laura Bragg (1964); Betty Woodward receiving the Frances Edmunds award from Thomas Palmer (1994); 11 photos of HCF Trustees, Kitty Robinson, and others, taken at the reception in memory of Sally Reahard (2004); Kitty Robinson, Winslow Hastie, Eddie Bello, Glenn Keyes, and representatives of Page & Turnbull on the occasion of receiving an award by the National Trust for the 2008 Preservation Plan (2009).

Folder 6: Eleven B&W photographs of the opening of the Preservation Center (108 Meeting Street), featuring Frances Edmunds, several HCF staff members and trustees, and Mayor Joseph Riley. Also includes a photo of the preservation exhibit that stood for many years.

Folder 7: Photographs taken at the opening reception of HCF's offices at 11 Fulton Street in 1982. Includes photos of HCF staff and trustees, Those identified are staff members Betty Guerard, Cornelia Pelzer, and Louis P. Nelson, and trustees Fraser Wilson, Charles Duell, Peter McGee, and Jane Hanahan.

Folder 8: Photographs of an unidentified meeting that took place on May 7, 1992, likely including several members of HCF's Board of Trustees, including Lawrence Walker.
