Beethoven on Church Street

1822 marks not only the consecration of the current First Baptist Church building, but the time in which Ludwig van Beethoven was at work on his miraculous Ninth Symphony.
Grandeur and Romance
Trinity Methodist Church, c. 1848-50

With its giant and imposing Corinthian-columned portico and massive dual flight of stone steps, Trinity Methodist Church beautifully reflects the grandeur of antebellum Charleston. Equally grand is the highly expressive music of this time, known as the Romantic Period.
Athens Recorder Ensemble
St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, c. 1835

Set amid the beauty of the intimate and historic setting of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, the Athens Recorder Ensemble is back by popular demand from last year's Festival. A sampling of musical genres through the ages will be presented, reflecting the Renaissance, Baroque and Modern periods. Kevin Kelly of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music will set the stage by offering a brief commentary of the music provided by this ensemble.
