Tour the Aiken-Rhett House African Americana at the Aiken-Rhett House

History of the Aiken-Rhett House Slavery in Charleston

The East Dressing Room

Henrietta Aiken Rhett used this room as a bathing and dressing chamber. Wood strips, knows as lath, are visible above. They are attached to framing members of the house and support the plaster ceiling. An original nineteenth century metal-lined footbath and tub remain.
